    The mission of the Core Data Science team is to ensure that we are leveraging state of the art science at Airbnb for the highest possible impact on the business and the community. We do that by building reusable models and features that empower every DS team in the company; and by tackling the most technically challenging, high impact data science problems the company faces.

    The Difference You Will Make:

    As a Data Scientist for the team's machine learning work, you will work closely with the tech lead for this area on significant components of larger projects. The keys to success in this role are effective execution on  high-impact applications and successful application of new technologies and innovations to Airbnb problems.

    The role requires partnering with engineers, product managers, and other data scientists across the organization. A successful candidate will be able to collaborate with these technical and non-technical partners to achieve the best outcome for Airbnb and its customers.

    A Typical Day: 

    • Developing signals (e.g. embeddings, clustering) from LLMS and other sources that be be leveraged across multiple defenses
    • Effectively leveraging LLM technology to solve Airbnb business problems
    • Utilizing Deep Learning techniques for advanced feature engineering and model building, e.g., how to model for user behavior sequences,
    • Devising optimization models to make optimal business decisions while minimizing risk
    • Integrating causal modeling with ML models in order to improve performance of model-derived interventions.

    Your Expertise:

    • PhD degree in a quantitative field, e.g. Computer Science, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics
    • Proven ability to design analytical solutions to complex problems with real world applications
    • 2+ years of experience of working or doing research in one or more ML / AI domains, e.g. LLMs, computer visions, recommendation systems etc. Open to recent PHD grad. 
    • Strong programming (Python / Scala / Java / C++ or equivalent) skills
    • Experience with OSS ML technologies such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Spark, Airflow
    • Versatility to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Publications or presentations in recognized Machine Learning and Data Mining journals/conferences is a plus.

    Your Location:

    This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
